Big Aloha: Good News and Community Events at Waikiki Beachside Hostel

This page is where we share what is new, what is kind, and what is next at Waikiki Beachside Hostel. We are building a simple tradition. Each month, we will organize one way to give back. We are all about gratitude, sharing, and service. Dates for some events are still to be determined, and we will post updates here as plans lock in.

November Can Drive (Above)

In November, Waikiki Beachside Hostel hosted a canned food drive to support our community.

December Plans

These plans are moving forward. We will post exact dates, times, and instructions once confirmed.

Homeless Collection

When you stay at Waikiki Beachside Hostel, the things you can’t fit in your suitcase can still go somewhere meaningful. Instead of throwing away extra food, gently used clothing, beach gear, or toiletries, you can drop them into our donation bins before you check out. Our team will regularly collect these items and deliver them directly to local organizations and outreach groups that support people experiencing homelessness in Honolulu. It is a simple way for travelers to give back to the community that welcomed them, turning leftover essentials into a little bit of hope for someone who truly needs it.

  • Extra unopened food and snacks
  • Gently used clothing
  • Beach towels and sarongs
  • Swimwear and cover-ups
  • Slippers and shoes
  • Beach gear (snorkel sets, floaties, reef-safe sunscreen, hats)
  • Toiletries (shampoo, soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, razors, deodorant)
  • Light blankets or throws
  • Reusable water bottles and small reusable bags

January Plan

Beach Park Cleanup

  • When: January, date to be determined
  • Where: a nearby beach park in Waikiki
  • What to expect: light cleanup, simple safety guidance, and plenty of good vibes
  • What to bring: sun protection, water bottle, and closed toe shoes

How You Can Participate

  • Check this news page for updates on dates and drop off details
  • Bring donations to the front desk during staffed hours
  • Invite travel buddies to join the potluck or cleanup
  • Share the news with your social circles to boost turnout
  • Ask reception how to volunteer for set up or breakdown

Our Monthly Give Back Plan

Starting now, we will host one community focused project each month. Some months will be donation drives. Others will be hands on service like cleanups or support for local partners. The goal is steady, simple actions that make a real difference. If you have an idea for a future project, stop by the desk and share it.

Why This Matters To Us

Hostel life is about connection. We believe travelers and locals can come together to care for the island we all enjoy. Small acts, repeated often, add up. A bag of rice. A shared plate. An hour picking up litter. It all counts.

Stay Tuned For Updates

We will post final dates, supply lists, and sign up notes here as we confirm partners and schedules. Check back before you shop, cook, or head to the beach. You can always ask the team at the desk for the latest plan.
