Is There Air Conditioning in Oahu Hostels? Absolutely

Yes, Oahu Hostel Rooms Have Air Conditioning

If the heat is your biggest concern when staying in a hostel on Oahu, here’s your answer: Yes, all rooms at Waikiki Beachside Hostel come with air conditioning. Every single one—private rooms and shared dorms—has AC. That means you can enjoy island life during the day and sleep in a cool, comfortable room at night.

But here's one detail you should know:

The 8-bedroom shared dorm has only one AC unit in the front section, where four of the guests stay. The back section, where the other four guests sleep, does not have its own air conditioner. So while most rooms, including smaller dorms and private options, come fully equipped with AC, the 8-bed dorm setup might feel different depending on which section you're assigned.

To guarantee air conditioning, choose one of these room types: the 6-Bed Dorm, 4-Bed Standard or Deluxe, Semi-Private, or any Private room.

Whether you're traveling solo, with friends, or hopping between islands, staying cool at night makes a huge difference. Especially in Hawaii.

What Are the Hostel Dorms Like?

Waikiki Beachside Hostel offers a range of dorm options, and they’re more comfortable than you might expect. The setup is casual, clean, and budget-friendly.

  • Dorms are co-ed or female-only
  • Most dorms fit 4 to 8 guests
  • Bunk beds are standard
  • Rooms include lockers for personal items
  • Every dorm has its own AC unit
  • Daily housekeeping is included

Bathrooms can be either in-room or shared, depending on the room type. Sheets and pillows are provided, so no need to bring your own bedding.

What Should You Wear to Sleep in a Hostel in Oahu?

Hawaii is warm all year, but with the AC on at night, it’s smart to pack sleepwear that works for cooler indoor temps. Here’s what’s best:

  • Lightweight pajamas or T-shirt and shorts
  • Breathable fabrics like cotton
  • A hoodie or light sweater if you get cold easily

Also consider bringing earplugs or a sleep mask, especially if you're in a shared dorm. It helps block out noise or light from other guests.

Do Hostels Provide Toilet Paper and Soap?

Yes. Waikiki Beachside Hostel provides:

  • Toilet paper
  • Hand soap in all shared and private bathrooms

You won’t need to pack these items unless you prefer specific brands. However, you’ll need to bring your own shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel.
